Stanhopea connata (back bulb)

Back bulb of orchid Stanhopea connata. 
This species of orchid grows in Columbia and Peru at an elevation of 1000 to 2000 m.

Propagation of orchids from back bulbs is a simple and straightforward procedure but requires a lot of patience as bulbs can take months before new growth will emerge. The bulb needs to be planted in a very well draining potting medium (e.g. perlite, coco chips) and be kept only very lightly moist to almost dry. A healthy back bulb is firm to the touch and of green coloration.
